Community Emergency Response Teams aka CERT is a great local organization that can provide an educational program with active involvement in the community. They teach emergency response actions and life-saving skills that anyone can use in their own homes and neighborhoods. First designed in the early 90s by the Los Angles Fire Department (LAFD), there are thousands of CERT members across the U.S.
