Emergency Services

February 2018 is a 4 and 5 and 3 kinda month

Seems like January went on forever…but February is finally here!

In the first week, it’s all about preparedness in a few classes on Hazardous Weather in Region 4…which is timely as we all have been having challenges with weather this year. Hope to get a chance to meet up with the state director too.

Second week, I’ll be hitting the HSEEP hard as I pop another Homeland Security Exercise Evaluation Program class for Emergency Management. I am also hoping to attend my 2018 refresher weather class on Weather Spotter on Thursday too. Region-5 baby!

Third week in Region-3 cause I’ll be back at EMI for the Advanced PIO Class and the Master PIO Program. Will I be seeing you in my class?!?

And the fourth week, I head back to Summit County, Ohio to teach the Basic PIO course. That’s right – in a matter of three short weeks, I will have the Basic and Advanced and Master PIO Courses. Also looking forward to our quarterly training with news media at WOIO Channel 19/43 CBS affiliate. DM me for more deets.

Keep em safe peeps!

Big lessons learned symposium #PIO #PAO #ESF15

Yesterday, I was asked to speak at the big lessons learned symposium from the 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

Former FEMA Deputy Administrator Tim Manning kicked everything off in the morning.

Me? I was specifically asked to address crisis communications and disaster communications in the response phase for September-October in the Florida Keys and November-December in the US Virgin Islands. #PIO #PAO #ESF15 #ExternalAffairs

Also, I was fortunate to be introduced by Director for the Pacific Region of the National Weather Service Ray Tanabe.

His surveys on hydration during disasters is super interesting.

He’s a super nice guy too.

Other speakers also shared stories from Texas, US Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.

Additional panel discussions…

…and group discussions played out with all participants too.

All islands EMAs were represented including state, DoD, and Federal agencies.

I’m proud to share all our successes in each of these places with everyone attending today.

So much to learn esp in disaster communications.

NDPC Commemorates 20 Years of Preparedness Through Training

“Today I want to emphasize the NDPC’s commitment to be relevant to and focused on the needs of our stakeholders, partners and customers,” said Al Davis, NDPC chairman.

“The NDPC mantras of ‘Preparedness through Training’ and ‘Creating a Culture of Preparedness’ resonate as both worthy and relevant now more than ever.”
