Large header in Columbus #fire

Made a pit stop in Columbus today, and walked out to a header. Upon closer look…

I followed Truck-2 in.

Smelled different than a normal work.

All the foncy trucks attended. But sadly, it was only mulch. Basically large open burning.

Oh well.

But hey, at least the sun was out.

Tornado siren? Today? Disaster? Emergency?!? #OHWx

Tornado siren? Today? Disaster? Emergency?!?

img_0650

On Wednesday March 23rd, 2016 at 0950 EST, communities across the state of Ohio that have tornado warning siren systems, will test them. In addition, an Emergency Alert System (EAS) warning message will be broadcast. We encourage all communities with sirens to participate in this annual event by conducting their own tornado drills and reviewing their emergency plans.

This is only a test.

A strong EF-1 tornado that hit Pepper Pike

Yes it is 2016 National Severe Weather Preparedness Week. Back in 2013, a strong EF-1 hit Pepper Pike (Cuyahoga County, Ohio) in 2013 at 3am.

Luckily, there were no deaths associated with this tornado. Trust me, the damage was unreal.

TornadoPepperPikea

Yikes is right. But now is the time to review your preparedness kits and double check your family communications plan.

On Wednesday 03-22-16 at 0950 EST, Ohio will have a statewide test of the tornado sirens. This is only a test.

Test your tornado plans by:

  • Taking shelter in a safe location on the lowest level of a sturdy building
  • Keeping an emergency first aid kit in your shelter location.
  • Having a copy of your family communications plans.
  • Putting on boots (for post tornado debris).

These simple tips could help you survive a tornado strike.

More weather info can be found 24/7 by my trusted partners at NWS-CLE.

I hope that you can participate in our statewide tornado drill tomorrow. #SafetySur #NatlPrep #OHWx #severeprep

@rusnivek

Voted today?

I hope you voted today.

I sure did.

While I care for favorite candidates and choices, I ultimately care about your participation with your voice in American government.

People across this world are denied the right to vote.

But here in the US, everyone deserves freedom.

For the people, by the people.

Please go vote.

#ZikaVirus in CLE

Dear #ZikaVirus : Welcome to Cleveland (Ohio)!

tumblr_lyb8vr7o4y1qk682c

COLUMBUS – The Ohio Department of Health is reporting Ohio’s first case of Zika virus in a returning traveler from Haiti, a 30-year-old Cuyahoga County woman, city of Cleveland. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) was reporting 35 cases of Zika virus in 12 states and the District of Columbia prior to Ohio’s case.

Zika virus is primarily transmitted through a mosquito bite, and there is no indication that it can spread from person to person through casual contact. CDC has confirmed a U.S. case of Zika virus infection in a non-traveler after the person’s sexual partner returned from an affected country and developed symptoms.

“Prevention of mosquito-borne Zika virus transmission is the same as prevention of any other mosquito-borne diseases,” Dr. DiOrio said. “This includes taking precautions to prevent mosquito bites – such as using insect repellents, limiting exposure where and when mosquitoes are most active, and removing breeding sources such as containers that collect standing water.”

Rolling out the newly revamped G0290 in Ohio

My desk is a mess with course information, participants manuals, IGs, post-tests, classroom activities, etc…and as we start to plan out the rollout of the new PIO G0290 for Ohio.

I do enjoy popping new classes.

You guess it, February has just reared it ugly head. But don’t worry-
