First responders must be properly kitted out with the right equipment to do the job they are assigned to do.

Always wear your stuff. Always.

TEMS Operators are definitely #EMSStrong #EMSWeek2016

SWAT Medics aka Tactical EMS Operators have gained so much more prominence in daily operations.

img_9255

In its infancy, Tactical Emergency Medical Services (TEMS) was made up of a bunch of EMS pros from so many different backgrounds.

TEMSOperators

These nuts.

These days, I’m glad to see my training has paid off and TEMS Operators are respected by their peers in the Fire/EMS Service, but as well as Law Enforcement Officers (LEOs).

Heck, even my friends at the FBI has many trained TEMS Operators.

Tactical EMS Operators (aka SWAT Medics) are a critical piece of a successful Emergency Medical Service operation.

Thank your local Tactical EMS pros for a job well done!

Detailed on a special project for CPD

In the coming months, I’ll be working closely with Cleveland Police on a special project.

IMG_6101

Which divisions? I’ll be working closely with their Mounted Unit, K9 Teams, Airport Detail, Bomb Team, SWAT Team, and of course their Air unit (helo).

Awww yeah. All specialty teams!

So yes, you can expect these types of pictures.

July 2015 has crazy-town written all over it

June 2015 turned out to be pretty crazy…and July 2015 has crazy-town written all over it.

First week: I’ll be working on a few things for NW Ohio and their recent flooding. Most likely Public Information Officer response stuff. At the end of the week/weekend, I got a special project with Cleveland Police K-9 Teams, SWAT, Bomb Team, Air Unit, and Mounted Units. Finally back in Region-5!

Second week: I’ll be teaching the Ohio Emergency Management Agency’s Basic Public Information Officer’s Course and Joint Information Center/System in Medina County. Working the PIO magic for the state!

Third week: I’ll be teaching a weekend ICS-300 and a weekend ICS-400 in Ohio. If possible, I might sneak away during the week to Frankfort, Kentucky to pilot a new FEMA PIO Course in Region-4.

Fourth week: I’ll be finishing up the ICS-400 course and then coordinating a site visit and functional exercise for our NE Ohio PIO Task Force (NEO-PIO-TF) to one of the local news stations in the Cleveland area.

It’s still a bit hectic, but I am hoping to see some peace to my schedules soon.

140 SWATTING is the new thing

On Saturday, a user on Twitter posted threats about specific flights.

image

These terroristic tweets were taunting and often vulgar with careless disregard for the safety of numerous people. Authorities were contacted and an immediate investigation was started. Multiple flights were halted, Flights from Portland Portland and Milwaukee were identified and Atlanta Airport was checked for bombs.

Targeting various airlines, the threats moved on from Delta Airlines to Southwest Airlines.

image2

Good practice – the verbiage used by Southwest is good communications/social media verbiage to use on Twitter when responding to immediate threats.

User cited supposedly specific information on how the plot was carried out.

image3

Taunting the safety of passengers on a public forum is bad.

image4

In the end, the person making the threats identified a specific address of location. Again, taunting law enforcement.

image5

Easily found on Google Maps, Chicago Police was dispatched to this address to verify information.

image6

As I predicted, the address did not yield the subject.

Sounds like “SWATTING” to me – http://www.fbi.gov/news/stories/2013/september/the-crime-of-swatting-fake-9-1-1-calls-have-real-consequences/the-crime-of-swatting-fake-9-1-1-calls-have-real-consequences

In my opinion (and how you should interpret this story is simple): It takes is 140-characters to send you to jail.

From the intel POV: Lots to glean from the info/data posted in these tweets.

From the safety POV: Lots of operational assets to mobilze.

From the Emergency Management POV: Lots to coordinate with various all-hazards public safety agencies in multiple places.

This would be a good time to remind you of DHS’ phrase – “If you see something, say something”.

Remain vigilant my friends.
