This is my set up. How do I look??
DFT2014 safety tip-05: make sure your deep fryer is located far away from any structure, free of obstructions, and provides ample avenues of egress.
Far enough away from the house, far enough away from any dead trees, but totally on a flat concrete surface.
This flat concrete surface provides a stable platform so nothing spills of tips over.
Bonus points for my fire extinguisher too.
I think I did pretty good. Although I wish it was warmer.
Gloves on, scene safe?
DFT2014 Safety Tip-03: always practice safe cooking. Cross contamination and food poisoning is no joke.
Of course proper body substance isolation (BSI) and personal protective equipment (PPE) is a must as you prepare your Thanksgiving turkey!
Just making sure everything looks good for tonight’s turkey.
A bucket of water or a fire extinguisher?
For deep-fried turkey you definitely need something much bigger than a bucket of water.
A bucket of water is not enough and it’s easily the wrong type of extinguishment method you need. Because of the nature and the dangers of frying a turkey you should definitely have a fire extinguisher ready.
Don’t forget to check your fire extinguishers to see if they are expired. The gauge on the fire extinguisher should read in the green it should not be under charged or overcharged. It should be just right.
Having a fire extinguisher ready to go is a great example of how you could be prepared. That goes for turkeys and disasters!

DFT2014 Safety tip-02 NEVER deep fry a frozen turkey! Please thaw it out first!
If you deep fry a frozen turkey you are most likely going to create a gigantic balls of fire. Not only will the oil splashed over the side and ignite, the frozen turkey will surely cook unevenly.
Trust me, if you deep fry a frozen turkey, do you have a terrible Thanksgiving dinner.
Now to find another turkey…

Well, after a bunch of reading, I decided to deep fry a turkey on Thanksgiving.
I just hope I don’t burn down the house.
Maybe I should stick to the scalloped potato dish.

Quick social media note: During a national crisis/event, turn off your scheduled posts/tweets.
Last night, I watched as numerous agencies continue (or forget) to stop their auto scheduling programs last night. C’mon, I talk about that in class! If you don’t turn off your auto posts/tweets, your constituents and consumers will perceive you as being insensitive to the current events.
After the horrific shooting at the Aurora, Colorado Theatres on 07-19-14, NRA social media team autoposted this tweet via HootSuite on 07-20-14. Tweet was viewed as inappropriate as shootings/gun violence/tragedy was the major discussion of the day. Tweet was perceived as inappropriate and insensitive.
After all, social media is about being social and talking about #trending topics right? (Think of it as a digital water cooler)
After the Boston Bombing incident, many brands and organizations expressed thoughts and prayers for those involved in this egregious tragedy. Public perception? Simple and thoughtful.
Now I know what you are saying – “But national events don’t play any part in our daily operations.” WRONG!, your image is based on perception and being mindful or relevant to a national event will help your readers embrace your greater good.
Now what is considered a national event? Well, that is for your organization to decide. My opinion? I would err on the side of conservative judgment.
