Earthquake now? Don’t freeze up!

With the International Great ShakeOut Exercise tomorrow, I wanted to share a single thing that we tend to do…esp DURING an earthquake. That is freeze!

And since we as human beings are often occupied with our phones and social media, an earthquake can cause us to freak out/freeze and ultimately NOT do what we are trained to do.

If you don’t think/train on earthquakes, this could be you.

Ya know, maybe consider doing the things we tell you about every year. Just remember:

That’s right, train like you fight. And in this situation, your actions could actually save your life.

Be safe. Looking forward to seeing you taking cover tomorrow at 10:17am.

LinkedIn’s flawed new custom background

If you haven’t checked out your LinkedIn profile in a while, you should.

LinkedIn

The new feature JUST added is supposedly this background image (similar to Facebook’s Cover Photo or Twitter’s Header) will make you more appealing business minded individuals.

LinkedIn2

LinkedIn uses the term, “Make your profile stand out with a custom background”

Ahem.

IMHO: It sucks. If your image you upload is not 1400 x 425 pixels, programming will  distort the image. Big time fug.

No one likes fuzzy pictures.

Unless of course you are a bear. Bears like fuzzy pictures.

And we all know, bears do not use LinkedIn regularly.

Shake-shake-shake…shake your #Earthquake #EQ #ShakeOut

Recently, we have seen a great increase in earthquakes across the country. From small to extremely large earthquakes, we should all be prepared – so I highly recommend that you participate in today’s Earthquake ShakeOut training/exercise/drill.

So on Thursday October 16, 2014 at 10:16am – practice your earthquake safety procedures with 9 other states in our region using these three easy steps:

Drop-Cover-and-Hold-On

1. DROP to the ground

2. Take COVER under a sturdy table or desk, if possible, and protect your head and neck

3. HOLD ON until the shaking stops

Following these 3 easy steps will help protect and you during an earthquake.

ShakeOut is coordinated by the Central U.S. Earthquake Consortium and the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma and Tennessee.

See, even the cool kids are doing it.

@rusnivek

Today at 10:17am, you should practice these 3 easy steps… #ShakeOut

After the most recent events that just occurred in the Philippines on Tuesday, I highly recommend that you participate in today’s Earthquake ShakeOut exercise.

“This isn’t California…Ohio doesn’t have earthquakes…”

WRONG McFly! The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) have recorded six earthquakes so far this year: three earthquakes in March and three earthquakes in July. Ohio had a total of four earthquakes in 2012.

Surprised? I know you are.
