New ICS 300 and ICS 400 debut tomorrow

Pretty excited to hear about the changes to ICS 300 and ICS 400 tomorrow. I know FEMA EMI has been working hard on these fundamental changes with the ICS structure and command and control.

The last update was really October 2013 so we are totes due for a refresh.

Yeah 2013-2019. Six years isn’t the typical cycle.

This refresh is going to be special as they embody the changes that DHS/FEMA Director of National Integration Doc Lumpkins has set forth in his NIMS refresh.

Proud to carry his work on throughout so many communities across this great country.

So the truck is reportedly new (2013). This kinda stuff happens. Plus, being a brand new truck, all areas in district should have been tested for response. I am hoping for no injuries. Perhaps this is a good time for everyone who are getting new apparatus, to test ALL areas (including mutual aid areas) for response and height clearances. EVERYONE should review their routes in response areas and bridge height clearances.

Ordinary people – Please do something extraordinary

We are all put on earth to do something amazing.

And yes, anyone can do amazing things…even you. Get inspired by ordinary people who take extraordinary actions. Yes, I said go from ordinary to extraordinary.

For example, check these ordinary people out.

I honestly hope you do the same for others. I would.

So Veteran’s Day 2013, a big special thanks to my Dad who served in some shady areas who did some extraordinary stuff there. Also special thanks to all other Veteran’s who served and are still serving this great country.

For everyone else on this Veteran’s Day, I challenge you to do something extraordinary.

No matter how small or how big, take a part in this great day of remembrance and celebration for those who have served and provided our extraordinary freedoms that we all have in this great country.

Please do something extraordinary.

Today at 10:17am, you should practice these 3 easy steps… #ShakeOut

After the most recent events that just occurred in the Philippines on Tuesday, I highly recommend that you participate in today’s Earthquake ShakeOut exercise.

“This isn’t California…Ohio doesn’t have earthquakes…”

WRONG McFly! The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) have recorded six earthquakes so far this year: three earthquakes in March and three earthquakes in July. Ohio had a total of four earthquakes in 2012.

Surprised? I know you are.

So on Thursday October 17, 2013 at 10:17am – practice your earthquake safety procedures with 9 other states in our region using these three easy steps:

Drop-Cover-and-Hold-On

1. DROPto the ground

2. Take COVERunder a sturdy table or desk, if possible, and protect your head and neck

3. HOLD ONuntil the shaking stops

Following these 3 easy steps will help protect and you during an earthquake.

ShakeOut is coordinated by the Central U.S. Earthquake Consortium and the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma and Tennessee.

See, even the cool kids are doing it.
