Measure the oil with water WITH your bird or else… #DFT2013

And of course you measured your turkey with water and IN the pot before you started heating up the oil right?

Checking your bird’s volume BEFORE you dunk it into bubbling hot oil is a smart move.

IMG_0320

If you haven’t, here’s a few easy steps that only take 60 seconds:

  1. Empty pot.
  2. Insert bird
  3. Add water to cover bird
  4. Remove bird
  5. Measure remaining water. That’s how much peanut oil you put into pot.

Easy right?

If you did NOT measure your oil prior to frying, your pot could overflow…and this could happen to you

Don’t be crispy this Thanksgiving!

@rusnivek

Frying plastic parts and packaged giblets isn’t a good idea #DFT2013

Also, take a look inside your bird too.

Remove all plastic and extra giblets from inside the bird.

IMG_0291 IMG_0292

Cause no one likes fried plastic…

Don’t get the bird from your guests tonight…check your bird again.

@rusnivek

Disaster averted – look what I almost forgot to pull out #DFT2013

More checks this AM.

OMG-look what I almost forgot to pull out

IMG_0286

It would have been disastrous if I had dropped the bird in with this plastic pop top still in.

Double check your birds BEFORE you put it in the oven or deep fryer.

My list of safety tips for my Deep Fried Turkey is ready #DFT2013

So I got a list that I have printed up for ready reference.

  • Printed and ready, here’s my quick tips for my turkey frying.
  • Defrost your MoFo Turkey!
  • 3 minutes per pound.
  • Maintain temp at 350.
  • No mixing oils – only peanut oil!
  • NOT on your deck. Seriously.
  • Adults only!
  • No beverages…none.
  • If the oil begins to smoke, immediately turn the propane supply tank off and leave the pot uncovered to cool.
  • No exposed skin – only turnout/bunker gear.
  • And try not to set the house on fire.

(Although a gigantic fireball would be pretty cool)

MABAS Box alarm, reported working residential structure fire…

I better not screw this up.

@rusnivek

Deep Fried Turkey should NOT be in the garage #DFT2013

Wait a second….who deep fries a turkey IN the garage?!?!?!

C’mon!

As a firefighter, an easy 1 3/4 line blasting away would be good.

Maybe attack crews should blast these guys too.

@rusnivek

Fryer on a deck!?!?! Are you nuts? #DFT2013

Clearly not paying attention to safety rules.

Check out these idiots who decided to use their deck #DFT2013

Do NOT fry a turkey on your deck.

@rusnivek

Operation Turkey Drop…I mean LOWER #DFT2013

So just to be clear, tomorrow, I will be lowering my turkey in.

Air bombing the turkey into my deep fryer is NOT a good idea.

#Kaboom

On a related note: I just checked my home insurance policy too.
