July 2015 has crazy-town written all over it

June 2015 turned out to be pretty crazy…and July 2015 has crazy-town written all over it.

First week: I’ll be working on a few things for NW Ohio and their recent flooding. Most likely Public Information Officer response stuff. At the end of the week/weekend, I got a special project with Cleveland Police K-9 Teams, SWAT, Bomb Team, Air Unit, and Mounted Units. Finally back in Region-5!

Second week: I’ll be teaching the Ohio Emergency Management Agency’s Basic Public Information Officer’s Course and Joint Information Center/System in Medina County. Working the PIO magic for the state!

Third week: I’ll be teaching a weekend ICS-300 and a weekend ICS-400 in Ohio. If possible, I might sneak away during the week to Frankfort, Kentucky to pilot a new FEMA PIO Course in Region-4.

Fourth week: I’ll be finishing up the ICS-400 course and then coordinating a site visit and functional exercise for our NE Ohio PIO Task Force (NEO-PIO-TF) to one of the local news stations in the Cleveland area.

It’s still a bit hectic, but I am hoping to see some peace to my schedules soon.

Solid weekend ICS class in Belmont County

Great weekend ICS class!

Good mix of participants from Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Alabama (serving FEMA Region-5, Region-3, and Region-4).

Building all-hazards partnerships early and planning together is a defining factor for success…esp in HAZMAT emergencies.

Special thanks to Antero and Belmont County Emergency Management Agency for the hospitality.

Glad to be a small part in facilitating the new partnerships.

Busy December for 5 and 3 and 9 but no on 10

After a busy November, let’s continue the push hard into December please!

This Wednesday, I’ll be headed to Michigan to teach with FEMA Region-5 on continuity.

Upon the return to Ohio, I’ll make the quick turnaround and head down to southern Ohio/West Virginia to teach ICS-300. A double serving of Region-5 and Region-3.

Then head to Fulton County, Ohio (Toledo area) to teach a Basic PIO course with my favorite PIOs in the biz. Back in Region-5 baby!

The Oregon trip was canceled so No Region-10 for me. Boooooooooooooooo. But ongoing through December, I have two priority special projects for R9 and R5 that need to close too. So no futzing around!

December summary: Yes on 5, 3, and 9…but no on 10.

I’m just hoping to spend some family time sometime. Happy holidays everyone!

Solid group in my ICS-300 class at Washington County

Had a solid day teaching ICS-300 Intermediate ICS for Expanding Incidents to various public safety professionals at Washington County EMA.

Solid group hailing from several different functional groups.

I really enjoy classes that have a good mix of participants. It makes the class WAY more interesting and allows more input into exercises during class.

Remember: At 0300, I’m not pretty. At 0300, you are not pretty. Best time to get to know each other is under bright lights and calm setting…like now. Learn what is important to each agency so that you can better support their mission and goals during a disaster or emergency.

Breaking down another ICS-400 class today at Seville Guilford Fire Department.

Teaching on behalf of Ohio Emergency Management Agency (OEMA) in Ohio Department of Public Safety (ODPS) always brings a good mix of participants from all over the state. Fairly large crowd this morning which was filled with a bunch of great interactions.

Looking forward to the afternoon session. Bring on the coffee!

ICS-300 Intermediate ICS for Expanding Incidents at SGFD

Starting out ICS-300 Intermediate ICS for Expanding Incidents this morning. Fairly large class with VERY varied backgrounds makes for an interesting class.

Also good to see both EMA directors from Medina County and Wayne County stop in and welcome the class too.

As always, it’s great to be teaching on behalf of Ohio Emergency Management Agency (OEMA) in Ohio Department of Public Safety (ODPS).

Saturday and Sunday = My nose in books!

Spent the day reviewing and researching.

Digging into my C&GSF instructor books, all my position specific books as well as referencing my ICS-300 and ICS-400 manuals.

And for good measure, I also referenced my OSC, PSC, LSC, and LO instructor books too.

Yeah I know…geekish.

Doc Lumpkins would be proud (I think)
