Setting up all the fun today for our Basic PIO course and JIC/JIS course.

Both these FEMA courses are cornerstone classes that all external affairs professionals should take. Additionally, the emergency management/disaster response networking opportunities are outstanding.
And yes, we are going to do some on camera interviews too.

Bring your A-game.
Hope to see you in my class tomorrow.
Second day for some advanced social media training.

But seriously, this is my most favorite class to teach.

Focusing in hard on geolocation, rumor dispelling, metadata, and of course live broadcast technologies.

In class? Facebook Live? Interview skills? PIO stuff?!?! Sure thing! I’m in!

But first, lemme take a selfie.

Kicking off another social media course in St. Clair County Michigan!

Glad to see so many familiar faces in the crowd today.

Despite most of the class with respiratory illnesses, this is shaping up to be a solid day in class.
At 0600, Cleveland Police Officer David Fahey #2453 who was struck at the scene of a fatal crash westbound on I-90. He was subsequently transported to MetroHealth Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Vehicle that struck Officer Fahey then fled scene.

A vehicle matching the description was identified in Lorain County and currently a suspect is being questioned.
Follow trusted sources of information from Cleveland Police (www.twitter.com/CLEPolice) and the City of Cleveland (www.twitter.com/CityofCleveland) for solid news.
Reminder: When first responders are working, please move over and slow down.

Officer Fahey’s death is similar to an incident resulting in the Line of Duty Death (LODD) of Ohio State Highway Patrol Officer Kenneth Velez in September 2016.
Prayers to all involved esp the family of Cleveland Police Officer Fahey.
No matter where you are, please be mindful of public safety on the roadways.
Slow down.

Yesterday was the 2017 PIO Conference (#PIOCON17) held in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio.

We had a PACKED house with over 110 PIOs attending from multiple states.
Topics included:
We had some great engagement from multiple agencies across Ohio.

Numerous detailed questions throughout the day too – love it!

Super great to see so many familiar PIO and PAO faces in the crowd.
Even ones that we regularly seee in NE Ohio….great to have their participation and networking
Special thanks to Franklin County Clerk of Courts Director of Communications Xenia Palus on providing this incredible opportunity to all Public Information Officers and Public Affairs Officers across the State of Ohio and FEMA Region-5.
Looking forward to the next PIO Conference!
For those that have inquired, I have declined an assignment to the 2017 Presidential Inauguration.

Instead, I will be assigned to do Columbus stuff in the State of Ohio.
Looking forward to seeing all my Ohio peeps tomorrow.
P.S. If you are attending, this link has the deets you’ll need to stay informed.
