Emergency Services

Love emojis? Do you have an emoji keyboard?

Wait a moment – have emojis taken over actual language?

And now they have their own keyboard?!?!?!

OMG-WTF!

IMG_1019

I thought I was cool enough because I knew some of the hot keys – but I guess not.

I may have to ditch my cool guy acronyms and get this keyboard.

I especially like they put the poop emoji front + center on the keyboard.

My former flight team smiling

After a lukewarm week, what made me smile again? This.

Seeing my former flight team smiling on a great day in Ohio.

Yes, I knew these two jokersters when they first started with the flight program.

Left to right: Kilo-Charlie (117KC) and Whiskey-Sierra (118WS) with Mike-Bravo (626MB) on the fins. If you know the meaning behind these tail numbers, you know what it means to me.

Yups, back in the original EC-135 and BK days.

So glad to see they now are leading their respective teams as Lead Pilot and Base Supervisor. Ahhh, great memories. Outstanding flight crews. Transition approved!

Kaito….I mean @rusnivek

I do not FAVORITE on Twitter – but I LIKE #SMEM

Stop saying favorite….say like!

OldTwitterFavorite

In case you missed it, Twitter changed their “favorite” button to a “like” button.

NewTwitterLike

Yep, it changed from a star to a heart.

Twitter has played off the move from “favorite” to “like” as a universal symbol. The hearts have also done well on Periscope, Twitter’s live broadcast social media app. Perhaps it’s their cross platform comfort by using the heart as their like too.

Although I am NOT much of a fan of the new change, it might make it easier for people to say the one-syllable “LIKE” vs that three-syllable “FAVORITE” – I guess.

#Twittr

#Twittr

In my life, I do appreciate Twitter saving me from saying two less syllables.

Either way, you should “LIKE” things on Twitter now.

5 and 4 and 1 with a side of #DFT2015

Because of an abrupt change in schedules, October fizzled out quick. But November should be nicer.

First week: I’ll be working with the team at Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office and County Exec on a few social media things.

Second week: Bunch of tactical stuff including more video fun. #PewPew

Third week: I have been reassigned to teach in Region-1 in New Hampshire. So for those that inquired, I will not be able to attend the 2015 EM Conference in Vegas. #boo

Fourth week: Heading to Chicago! And yes, I’m considering attempting to deep fry a turkey. I’m hoping NOT to burn the city down #DFT2015

Fifth week (sorta): Leading into December, I will most likely be assigned to FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness for additional training with External Affairs or the Recovery Directorate. Fun in Region-4 Alabama!

In my spare November time, I might be able to close a few national projects still on the table. Things should fall into place for December and January 2016.

Spelling is algorithmically important for LinkedIn-Safety-PIO-SM-15-006

15-006: Spelling is algorithmically important for LinkedIn
Agency: LinkedIn platform Topic(s):       LinkedIn, Spelling
Date: 10-30-15 Platform:       LinkedIn

I have been asked to connect with many of you on LinkedIn. However, it is worth knowing that all Fortune 500 companies use LinkedIn as a recruiting and verification tool so subsequently spelling your actual job title correctly is a good start for the automated systems to match your account.

IMG_1092

I get everyone is busy with lots to do. But glaring errors like this are avoidable and as a manager, drove me to reject applications citing inconsistencies in work, history, and documentation.

IMG_0312

Look, I don’t have the best spelling either. In fact, I’d blame some of my spelling miscues to #DYAC – but LinkedIn is NOT the place where you are allowed to make these errors.

Just think how detrimental it would be to abbreviate the word Assistant (“Asst”) and forget the “t” – dangerous especially when the HR hiring algorithm forever excludes you from all remaining searches because of vulgarity.

Important four things:

1. Spelling your job title correctly is important.

2. Correct spelling will allow more matches when companies use job algorithms.

3. If you connect, the requesting connection’s spelling error will appear on your timeline to ALL your connections.

4. Spelling errors are a reflection of your professional work.

As a Friday afternoon activity – I’m going to check my LinkedIn account for spelling errors now.

A simple but important factor to remember when using LinkedIn – a professional social media platform for your career and growth.

Time is short, so post (and spell) good stuff!
