Are you in our class this week?

@rusnivek

Get some shades for your Monday viewing

In case you didn’t know, tomorrow is the eclipse. Are you in the full path of the eclipse?

Now, it is not magic or some kind of weird UFO thing or even Chemtrails, it’s science!

Here’s how tomorrow’s eclipse will work.

Now that you know how it works, we will now touch on safety.

If you look at the sun without special protective safety glasses, you will likely see this.

Soooooooo PLEASE wear approved safety glasses designed for th August 21, 2017 Solar Eclipse.

No glasses? Forgot? Didn’t think you needed them? Don’t worry, you are not alone. Here’s a DIY solution using an old cereal box.

I truly hope we don’t see a bump in eye emergency calls to 9-1-1.

Be safe peeps!

Best Practices for Incorporating…

A few good friends sent me the new Best Practices for Incorporating Social Media into Exercises released by the Department of Homeland Security’s Science and Technology First Responders Group.

Click on the link above to download the entire pdf.

Lots of good reading info in there from the International CAUSE IV experiment that I contributed in Michigan and our international partners in safety – Canada Public Safety.

Providing oversight on today’s US DHS and PS Canada International Exercise #Cause4 #CauseIV

I was requested to support the Department of Homeland Security’s 2016 Science and Technology Cause-4 International Exercise between the United States and Canada today.

United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Public Safety Canada. Yep-international baby!!!!!

But crossing borders is more difficult than you think – esp when dealing with patient privacy, tactical operations, and coordinating efforts amongst ultra type-A personalities.

This is why training and exercising is so crucial to agencies who want to make a different in their communities they serve. This is also why Emergency Management is ideally a solid coordinating entity for this type of response.

In this particular international exercise, emergency response agencies are testing EMS response, transport information, sharing actionable data, social media, and a whole lots others stuff.

I’m just glad to be a small part of the work by so many people and agencies.

post-1

I am convinced that through joint exercises, we can build stronger core agencies and be better responsive to emerging threats and hazards.

Event: White House Innovation for Disaster Response and Recovery Initiative on Tuesday July 29, 2014
This event will bring together technologists, entrepreneurs, and members of the disaster response community to showcase tools that will make a tangible impact in the lives of survivors of large-scale emergencies. The White House Innovation for Disaster Response and Recovery Initiative was first launched by the Administration in the wake of Hurricane Sandy to find the most effective ways technology can empower survivors, first responders, and local, state, tribal, territorial, and Federal government with critical information and resources.
