Canada Goose is fashionable into response clothing?!?

Am I the only one without a Canadian Goose jacket that costs a kabillion dollars?!!??! Why does everyone wear their stuff?

And of course I get these types of fashion ads.

Wait….is that what I think it is?

Does it have pockets for patches or ID tabs like my 511 jacket?

Does it?!!?!

Is response fashionable now?

Is covert now fashionable?

I’ve got soooooooooo many questions.

Demobilized from Hurricane Irma, now headed back out again

I just demobilized from Hurricane Irma. Total of 42 days.

One thought as I repack: I have never worked so hard and had to use ALL my learned PIO skills and tricks in just one disaster.

Few hours to make the turnaround in Cleveland.

Now headed to support another DHS mission with the US and Canada.

Hello to January 2017!

December was relatively busy but say hello to January 2017!

In the first week, its paperwork mania! As usual, we have yearly update classes that needs to be completed and mandatory inservice training.

Second week, I’ll be headed to the State of New Mexico’s Department of Heath to teach Social media. For my friends in Region-6, I also need to figure out if I’m a green or red. Hmmm.

Third week, I’ll be presenting at the huge PIO Conference in Franklin County (Columbus), Ohio. Working the PIO magic with Jennifer Ciaccia and Erica Creech. It’s a huge conference with tons of participants. Do you want to attend? Just email Xenia (xeniapalus@franklincountyohio.gov ) for more deets.

Fourth week, I head back to St. Clair County Michigan to teach social media. If you remember, these are my peeps who participated in the big Cause IV experiment with the Department of Homeland Security Federal Emergency Management Agency, and Canada’s Public Safety on a cross-border full scale exercise in 2016. Excited to see my peeps again!

Providing oversight on today’s US DHS and PS Canada International Exercise #Cause4 #CauseIV

I was requested to support the Department of Homeland Security’s 2016 Science and Technology Cause-4 International Exercise between the United States and Canada today.

United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Public Safety Canada. Yep-international baby!!!!!

But crossing borders is more difficult than you think – esp when dealing with patient privacy, tactical operations, and coordinating efforts amongst ultra type-A personalities.

This is why training and exercising is so crucial to agencies who want to make a different in their communities they serve. This is also why Emergency Management is ideally a solid coordinating entity for this type of response.

In this particular international exercise, emergency response agencies are testing EMS response, transport information, sharing actionable data, social media, and a whole lots others stuff.

I’m just glad to be a small part of the work by so many people and agencies.

post-1

I am convinced that through joint exercises, we can build stronger core agencies and be better responsive to emerging threats and hazards.

Only three in April right?

April has arrived like a wrecking ball, so sorry about the 7-day delay in posting my April schedule.

First week, I’ll be getting back from instructing in Colorado (Region-8). Also, I’m launching my own clothing line. Heh.

Second week, I’ll be teaching social media in Cincinnati at the Regional Operations Center aka TheROC (Region-5).

Third week, I’ll be in Nebraska presenting on social media and crisis communications (Region-7).

Fourth week, I’ll be in Michigan supporting the US Department of Homeland Security and Public Safety Canada with a bunch of seminars, a few EOC workshops, and then culminating with a TableTop Exercise (TTE). Bring your best ICS forms because we are repping the Homeland Security Exercise Evaluation Program (HSEEP) action in the hizzouse! (Region-5).

Fifth week is still not exactly defined. Likely, I will be in a “ready status” #mylife amiright?

Also, I am hoping that April gets warmer too.

Statement on Ottawa Canada shooting

I am saddened by the terrible shooting at the Ottawa War Memorial and the Canadian Parliament in Ottawa, Canada. Officials continue to respond to this horrific event and I believe we should provide any support necessary in the ongoing investigation. My hope is that we swiftly prosecute those who are responsible. Our hearts and prayers go out to Canada who have been impacted by this tragedy, especially the family and friends of those killed or injured.
