Quick recap of the #PIOCON17 in Franklin County #Ohio #Columbus

Yesterday was the 2017 PIO Conference (#PIOCON17) held in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio.

We had a PACKED house with over 110 PIOs attending from multiple states.

Topics included:

  • Returning the Surrvivors to Cleveland
  • CJSavesCLE – planned public safety event capitalizing on social media
  • The use of social media for live broadcast
  • Joint Information Center at the 2016 Republican National Convention
  • Tips/Tricks for government PIOs
  • County workshop on crisis communications and planning

We had some great engagement from multiple agencies across Ohio.

Numerous detailed questions throughout the day too – love it!

Super great to see so many familiar PIO and PAO faces in the crowd.

Even ones that we regularly seee in NE Ohio….great to have their participation and networking

Special thanks to Franklin County Clerk of Courts Director of Communications Xenia Palus on providing this incredible opportunity to all Public Information Officers and Public Affairs Officers across the State of Ohio and FEMA Region-5.

Looking forward to the next PIO Conference!

Mean people do not like severe weather warnings

Dear general public: Stop being mean to the National Weather Service, State/Local government public safety, and news reporters.

When “breaking news” occurs pertaining to safety, please adhere to the warnings put forth by the official sources.

Again, stop being mean!

Most reporters are generally nice and they want to report the facts.

For your protection, heed all safety warnings from official sources.
