Emergency Services

During an emergency, stop taking pictures too close!

Probably a good time to share reminders on taking pictures DURING an emergency. Like this guy.

This was from the Crocker Park gas explosion from March 2016.

Look-just make sure you are aware of the seriousness of the incident. This one was serious.

IMHO, I think he might have been standing a bit close huh?

For the entire video, check out the WEWS news story here.

Reminds me of the 2002 Libby x Lee gas explosion I was at.

Have you heard this song?

“Baby it’s cold outside…”    or   “Do you want to build a snowman?!?”

img_3066

Song(s) stuck in your head now? (aka earworm)

Whether it’s a song from high school that reminds you to a girlfriend/boyfriend or a tune that you can’t seem to shake, music is such a strong medium that can help appeal to another level to your constituents.

Not sold? Just remember, “I’m just a poor boy, nobody loves me…”

On camera crisis interviews, SnapChat, and FacebookLive showcasing the new Quint

Doing some PIO camera work today. Don’t be nervous!

Even for the most experienced professional, on camera interviews are challenging, but the more you do them, the easier it gets. Additionally, we were fortunate to have several participants with past media (TV and newspaper) experiences to share with the class too.

Social media? You bet! We talked a ton about SnapChat too.

Also had some fun with FacebookLive.

Humans all communicate differently…and speak lego

As human beings, we all communicate differently.

img_4159

No seriously, we do. However, if we can find a common language, we can better fulfill our SMART objective, implement our strategies, and of course utilize the right tactics.

img_4162

Common language? Yes, we use legos to demonstrate this process.

Just one of the fun training tabletop exercises we run through during the Command and General Staff Training.

Additionally, I got to talk about preparedness efforts too.

Snow and some thick ice today

Because of the changing weather conditions, allow yourself more time for travel esp driving.

As you can see, just brushing the snow off your vehicle won’t help much…

…when you have a solid layer of ice hiding below.

It’s deceiving with a light snowfall hiding the rainfall which turned to a sheet of ice.

So take extra time to chill and chizzle (<–see what I did there?) that thick layer of ice from all your windows.

Good time to put on a good pair of gloves or mittens and my favorite knit hat and have at it.

But for more preparedness tips, check out Ready.Gov’s Winter Weather preparedness tips – all for FREE.

Now back to chiseling out my command vehicle. Bah humbug.
