Stuck in the office on a Sunday. Likely I’ll need more caffeine.
I better submit my TPS reports before I leave today.

Happy National Preparedness month! The focus during this second week is on preparing friends and family for different emergencies.

Showcasing the skills of local first responders are incredibly important to adults AND kids. And sharing important information (like a Family Emergency Communications Plan) with first responders is critical.

National Preparedness Month that promotes creating family emergency communications plans.
Often times, we overlook explaining what actually happens during an emergency.

So take the time to explain to your kids that during an emergency, ALL first responders are there to help. And of course, don’t forget to teach your children to dial 9-1-1.

Reminder: When teaching children to call 9-1-1, do not verbally say “Nine-Eleven” as there is not an eleven button on the phone.
Do it today!

Preparing for emergencies isn’t exactly a fun thing to do….but snacks will make it easier!!!

Include your family and friends in your preparedness plans help calm their fears.
Many people will not digest information correctly and/or not take things seriously.

But if you talk to them and help them assemble their preparedness kits WITH SNAX, you will have helped increase their readiness for any disaster/emergency.

That’s cool. So don’t wait…

These are the kinds of details will help enhance your current plans.
Now you are probably wondering why I said to write them down (hard copy). If you lose power to your cell phone, or worse yet, you lose your cell phone during evacuation – you won’t have your programmed address book to reference with all the important contact information and cell phone numbers.

Welcome to National Preparedness Month – my favorite month!

I’m so excited #Obv

Lots of great things are happening across the country. So many public safety pros are contributing and supporting their communities this year.

Trust me, across this great country, I’ve presented a bunch, shared some engaging ideas, and made lots of phone calls.

Excited to see everyone’s A-game on Preparedness. For more ideas, check out www.ready.gov

August was quite the month of new stuff, and in true form, September will be just as exciting.
I am sure know that September is my most favorite month right? September is National Preparedness month where I’ll be featuring a whole bunch of different preparedness plans and you can participate and better prepare you and your family for disasters or emergencies. All of it…totally free!
But for the rest of the month, here’s the plan:
First week: I’ll be presenting at the Nebraska Infrastructure Protection Conference on Social Media intelligence and disasters. On day-2 of the conference, I’ll be giving the my national keynote presentation: Task Force Deployment to St. Bernard Parish Louisiana – Lower 9th Ward. Region-7 boom!
Second week: I’ll be presenting at the State of Kentucky Governor’s Emergency Management Workshop rolling out the brand new G-270.4 Recovery from Disaster course. Two days of critical recovery classes in Region-4…with me!
Third week: I’ll be in Columbus doing some Mass Fatality TtT classes with Ohio EMA and then delivering another Social Media course to Franklin County EMA. Back in Region-5.
Fourth week: We have the Ohio Department of Public Safety’s PIO Symposium (Friday September 25th, 2015) in Columbus.
And the Fifth week: I just might have some time to do some paperwork. Sigh.
This will be a tough first few weeks, but looking forward to the various regions.
And remember: Make your emergency plan today.
I know it’s only July, but National Preparedness Month is right around the corner.
FEMA’s Ready.Gov just announced the 2015 theme: Don’t Wait. Communicate: Make an emergency plan today.
Groovy huh?
Here’s the logo to use.
Weekly themes will be done according to these identified topics:
I’m looking forward to hearing your plans on how you intend to share preparedness efforts this year.

I am saddened by the terrible shooting at the Ottawa War Memorial and the Canadian Parliament in Ottawa, Canada. Officials continue to respond to this horrific event and I believe we should provide any support necessary in the ongoing investigation. My hope is that we swiftly prosecute those who are responsible. Our hearts and prayers go out to Canada who have been impacted by this tragedy, especially the family and friends of those killed or injured.
