We have the ability to better prepare our peeps for disasters or emergencies #NatlPrep #PrepareAthon #SaferOhio

“All I’m saying is that starting in Ohio and to the rest of the country, we have the ability to better prepare our peeps for disasters or emergencies.” – K. Sur

We all have outstanding communities in each of our 88 counties in Ohio. When they engage with numerous all-hazards public safety professionals, it becomes a whole community effort in preparedness. In essence, these are core programs that everyone can participate.

When the community gets involved, everyone wins.

So c’mon – get involved in your community.

Social Media Day-2 at the Oklahoma State Department of Health

Strong classroom engagement yesterday with many military personnel attending including a Lieutenant Colonel. But today’s class? They are asking some serious deep social media questions too!

PostIt

Including FacebookLive! So, like any hands-on PIO instructor, I decided to grab one of them and do a live demo. Say hello to USAF OK ANG PAO Brigette Waltermire!

Showcasing some social media live streaming magic to the class.

IMG_8231

During the break, I was able to demo how we do the behind the scenes stuff so that the PIOs/PAOs in the audience can see how much work goes into a two-minute interview.

Special mahalos to my friend Amber for the invite to Oklahoma again.

I am fortunate to have so much fun teaching in Region-6 with great peeps!

PIO-ing Cleveland’s Public Square during #PrideInTheCLE #ClevelandPride

Yesterday, I supported Cleveland Police on the #PrideInTheCLE #ClevelandPride event in Public Square.

DSC_0816

Much different from the Republican National Convention.

DSC_0850

Lots of families out and about (and enjoying) the new cool fountain in downtown Cleveland.

DSC_0806

Everyone was having a great time.

IMG_7624

Lots of speculation and talk about public safety not being around to support the LGBT community – all totally false. Public Safety will be there to support any community.

DSC_0854

Trust me, lots of public safety was on hand to support our entire community.

Lots of areas to cover.

Partnerships with the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department and Cleveland Police Department are key in providing safety for everyone who attended the event.

DSC_0933

It was a relatively hot day so I am glad that many of the participants dressed appropriately for the event.

Some not so much.

Fun entertainment and friendly people staying cool out in Public Square.

While waiting around, we had some time for a quick PIO selfie…

Cpwr_0TWgAA6wOa

Also had time for a few interviews with local media.

Also happy to run into a long time good friend Mark Zinni who is the anchor for the Channel 3 Eyewitness News in Hartford, Connecticut. Great to see him again.

Thanks for the picture Zinni!

Thanks for the picture Zinni!

Can’t wait to see him again in Cleveland.

While out there, we even made a few new peeps into Junior Police Officers.

DSC_0919

Thanks Ken!

We were fortunate enough to do a few live interviews on Periscope from Public Square.

IMG_7640

We highlighted the event and gave a status report of the operations using Periscope.

Ever wonder what it’s like to hang with onscene PIOs? Here’s a behind the scenes shot of us doing some live interviews on Periscope.

Thanks for the pic Zinni!

Thanks for the action shot Zinni!

Trust me, it’s harder than it looks.

Overall, it was great to see so many people out on a Saturday afternoon in Cleveland.

IMG_7613

As always, I had a great time working the PIO magic with Jen!

IMG_7650We make a pretty good team huh?

Hope everyone stayed dry while the rain hit.

Great safe event everyone!

Dauphin flight during Oshkosh 2016

Love seeing this video of a Dauphin flight at Oshkosh – thanks to the USCG Traverse City (MI) and Steve Kinevo.

The aircraft hum.

The start/lift sequence.

The pilot/crew challenge.

Not going to lie, I kinda miss being in a rotor wing aircraft now.

August is a 9-5-6 squared kinda month

July was a success – phew! Now on to August.

First and second week, I’ll be in the left coast – Region-9 baby!

Third week will be in Columbus, Ohio (CBus!) for a few Emergency Management classes. A little love for the home state.

Fourth week I’ll head down to Oklahoma to teach with their state health department on some social media in Region-6 baby!

Fifth week, I’ll get a chance to present at the New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Conference.

It’s a 9-5-6 squared kinda month.

Just trying to keep up with the pros…

Cleared for departure from RAP with special clearance

Really enjoying the All-American themes lately. And this week has been no exception.

It was suggested that I get an aerial perspective when I depart. So clearing it with Ellsworth Approach, our pilots planned a quick figure 8 pass on our departure out of RAP.

I only wish I had my DSLR. Don’t worry Maverick, the pattern wasn’t full. Chillax!

Special thanks to the All-American flight crew today #Merica !

Now on to Florida!

Hook echo, couplet, and a bunch of new acronyms in Kansas

And of course I get chosen as the spokesperson for my group.

B_Wcb96UIAEZcGp

And if you were going to ask, I was busting out my best weather moves for the hook echo about to hit our ficticious town of Central City.

B_bI6QVWIAA4nAb

Remember the mantra: Never stop learning as we are all still practicing.

I’m taking TONS of notes here in Kansas.
