Supporting infrastructure today #NEORSD

Slight change of PIO plans today as I was initially assigned to ESF-13 (Law Enforcement) – I have been reallocated to support infrastructure.

So today, I spent some time with the NorthEast Ohio Regional Sewer District, their PIO/Outreach team, and WallyWaterDrop.

WallyWaterDrop and Jessica from NEORSD sharing important safety tips and stickers with everyone..

Great outreach event with Parent Magazine and with so many from our local area.

Also had a chance to pop a quick Periscope live video too.

Nice work Jen Elting!

Here’s a behind the scenes action shot (aka “making the magic happen”).

PIOs in action! (L to R: K. Sur, WallyWaterDrop, and J. Elting) PC: Chief J. Brewington

Great day to support our partners in public safety esp our PIO pros at NEORSD are an invaluable resource.

Fortunately, there was a Starbucks close by…so you know. #hydration

Typical day on the Eisenhower…highway put into place by

Just your typical afternoon spent on the Eisenhower.

Fire + Police + EMS working tirelessly to help those involved in a MVA

DYK: In 1956 President Eisenhower established the Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956 which allocated monies for the creation and development of our national highway system across our country?

Bonus points for those that learned this factoid from the TV show Big Bang Theory and the Sheldon GPS.

Twinsburg Fire for a bit today

Spent part of my day at Twinsburg Fire (Summit County, OH).

Great to see Fire Chief Tim Morgan. Fun fact, I first met him when he was a new red helmet. We talked a bit about regionalization as well as building partnerships through our IMTs (Incident Management Teams).

But the fun began when I got a chance to chat with Assistant Fire Chief Steve Bosso about PIO stuff.

And of course other stuff too.

Say it with me: “partnerships”

Trust me, its great to have such an outspoken advocate for safety at Twinsburg and Summit County.

Be safe peeps – always lean on your trusted fellow peeps before the big one hits.

National Interagency Fire Center Wildfire memorial

I was fortunate to make a stop at the National Interagency Fire Center

This is where the so many HotShots train and hone their skills

The Wildland Firefighter Foundation sought a special way to recognize firefighters after the loss of 14 lives during the 1994 South Canyon Fire. The Foundation partnered with the National Interagency Fire Center to pursue creation of a monument. Generous donations and tireless work of countless volunteers transformed a section of parking lot into a peaceful park. The Monument was officially dedicated in a ceremony on May 25, 2000.

So many placards displaying fallen Firefighters.

My SnapChat has a more in-depth story including better views w/ Spectacles.

If you ever get out to Idaho, check it out.

Be safe peeps.

“Never underestimate the power of your water can.” – Lt. Chris Goldsworth

I was cleaning out a few older files from my cabinet and I came across an old gem from (now retired) Lt. Chris Goldsworth and his love for his water can.

This short video from Bellerose Terrace in New York exemplifies the effectiveness of a water can.

Aside from the 1 3/4, think about the lonely water can which sits poised to do some work.

On camera crisis interviews, SnapChat, and FacebookLive showcasing the new Quint

Doing some PIO camera work today. Don’t be nervous!

img_4177

Even for the most experienced professional, on camera interviews are challenging, but the more you do them, the easier it gets. Additionally, we were fortunate to have several participants with past media (TV and newspaper) experiences to share with the class too.

Social media? You bet! We talked a ton about SnapChat too.

Also had some fun with FacebookLive.
