Great social media course today in St. Simons Island, Georgia!

Special thanks to Glynn County EMA for hosting a great engaging course.

Lots of new peeps here for the class as well as a cameo appearance by FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate.

#totes magotes!
Who just shows up at a brand new social media class?!?
Glad to see the newly FEMA certified, NDPTC Social Media Tools and Techniques Course (PER-344) to Cuyahoga County, Ohio.

Also glad to see so many fellow peeps as well as public safety professionals who are willing to utilize technology to better their agencies.
Great engagement especially during classroom activities by instructors too.

Seriously, I’m proud to see that this class can help shape the way government and public safety agencies use social media in planned events as well as before, during, and after a disaster.
Super proud.
It isn’t official until it’s DHS/FEMA NTED official #NDPTC
This….THIS!!!!!

Big mahalos to all the pros who have helped me through this process. I am fortunate to have your support in the course I created.
Yes indeed, this one is a big check mark off my career list.
Lots of new social media friends in Michigan.

Many mahalos to the outstanding hosts from the Michigan State University Police Department and the use of their Emergency Operations Center for our #NDPTC class.

Our class included a social media inject from FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate.

Lots of discussion on data mining, geolocation, and information gathering including a little real-time people uses and their platforms. How was your coffee Valerie?
The power of social media.

After class was over, many of the participants (Cooper and Valerie) said to check out the famous MSU Dairy Store.

Dark, quiet, sadly, no one was home. Promised ice cream but I got nothing. #boo
Maybe next time I instruct in Lansing.
I had a great day bringing the newest FEMA/NDPTC Social Media course to Illinois State University yesterday.
Reporting live from the Illinois State University campus…
2015 year in review
Trainings conducted: 71 classes (ICS, IMT, PER, G-xxxx, AWR, etc…)

Classroom instruction: 2,372 participants

FEMA Regions: Instructed in 8 of 10 FEMA Regions (missed 2 and 10)

Looking forward to 2016!
Also had a chance to be one of the first instructors to deliver the new social media engagement presentation for FEMA/NDPTC.

Florida State University uses social media heavily to engage and inform their entire student body, faculty, as well as alumni of events ongoing on campus at Tallahassee.

FSU have a great social media presence. Consider following them @KeepFSUSafe @FSUAlerts @FloridaState #LifeAtFSU

Not only on a computer but from various mobile platforms and public warning systems too! Well done FSU!
A very special thanks to my awesome co-instructor Jennifer aka call sign: “other”.

Such a great adventure! Very proud of the work I’ve been assigned.
Reporting live from FEMA Region-4!
I rolled out my new FEMA presentation for FEMA Region-4 peeps at Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL.

At this time, this course is the semi-final pilot so I’m almost there!
Obvs, I had to incorporate a great preparedness campaign from my friends at the CDC. Have you heard of their preparedness campaign before? It costed the CDC a killer $87 (Get it? I’m so punny).

Classroom activities make it easier for our all-hazards partners to come up with good messaging during preparedness, response, and recovery.

Shared experiences and open discussion amongst public safety providers allows for solid social media solutions to be developed for many common issues.

Participants use various hardware and software platforms to complete each assigned performance-based task. This showcases the spectrum of social media that spans hardware and software differences.

Final will be presented for certification in August in FEMA Region-9 at the State of California Emergency Operations Center located in Sacramento.

So nervous! But seriously, I’m so excited for this project, I can’t even…
