Closing PIO & Social Media Session at the 63rd Annual Wayne County Fire School

Presenting today at the 63rd Annual Wayne County Fire School (Ohio).

And yes, I get to crack the awesome social media jokes on THE Ohio State University campus.

Lots of Firefighters and Paramedics from all over.

Many familiar faces in the audience too!

Event organizers estimate over 100 attendees with numerous vendors on site including Metro LifeFlight, Cleveland Clinic, and MedFlight of Ohio. Helicopters!

Me? I’m just glad to participate.

Yep, that’s a suit.

Also, kudos to a fellow Firefighter WHFD FF Gary Klaus who was named this year’s Fire School Honorary Dean.

Intro music (GNR’s Paradise City) playing for the afternoon session. #excited.

PIO and Social Media skillz in 3…2…1…

Pushing the envelope and advice

Not going to lie…I think I’ve been working too hard. I haven’t been getting enough sleep and I’ve been pushing the envelope a bit much.

Those on the inner circle know.

Leaders frequently walk alone.

Gah, I wish I had this view again.

On this Aloha Friday, I am reminded by my late Grandparents who frequently said to me, “stop and smell the roses.

I should listen more often.

Enjoy your Aloha Friday everyone.

Before and after #SOTU – Make sure to Instagram it

Back in January 2015, the President made a speech – #SOTU (State of the Union).

POUTS’ quote was “Good luck Captain. Make sure to Instagram it.”

And on January 20, 2015, Commander Kelly’s Instagram account looked like this.

@STATIONCDRKELLY’s Instagram game =  *cricket*   *cricket*   *cricket*.

Aaaaand getting called out by the boss on national TV is…er….rough. Woof!

So as a quick follow up to the NASA program, it appears that Astronaut Scott Kelly has stepped up his Gram game and is regularly posting some really neat content.

Postings include selfies too. Not bad because in space, there are not a bunch of people standing around to take pictures.

Accountability is key in any event or disaster – Well done Chief!

Glad to see my T-card class is being used already for all the public safety professionals in the Mahoning County area today for their big event Thunder Over the Valley.

Way to use ICS and NIMS for resource allocation on scene as well as in the air too (And we all know it’s not easy keeping up with the USAF Thunderbirds).

Also, check out a behind the scenes shot from Bazetta Fire Chief Dennis Lewis at their Incident Command Post. OSC, PSC, and RESL positions referencing those valuable T-cards.

For any occasion, event, or disaster – accountability will make or break you. So make sure your crews know what to do.

Keep up the solid work peeps!

Firefighter on Truck Company rescues cat from house fire

It’s Friday…and I bet it’s been quite a week for everyone.

We all need a few moments of hope and smiles for this weekend.

Fresno Firefighter Cory Kalanick chalks another one in the save column with this interior rescue effort using a GoPro Camera.

Even if you don’t like cats (or kitten savers), you just gotta love it.

Way to go Brother.

Best. Job. In. The. World.
