Participants completed several exercises with S.M.A.R.T. Objectives, finding the right strategy with the right tactic to complete the objective with the right resource – all part of the Planning-P.

These kinds of activities during non-emergency times will help increase skills of any public safety provider as we look to coordinate all-hazards response prior to a disaster or emergency. Additionally, I was able to showcase the PIO function as it pertains to a school fire (this is an exercise).

October is going to be fun!

September was busy thanks to National Preparedness Month but October is going to be super fun!

First week, I’ll be teaching ICS in Belmont County (Ohio). Bonus points because I’ll be in a suit on Tuesday!

Second week will be heavy planning/coordination for upcoming IMT OSC Course, PIO Workshop, and PIO Conference. (BTW: Save-the-date – Friday January 20th, 2017).

Third week will be reporting live at the International Association of Emergency Manager’s Annual Conference in Savannah, Georgia. Suit up lads because it’s IAEM baby!

Fourth week, I’ll be back in Marietta, Georgia teaching. Who’s showing the love for Region 4 this month?!? Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

#CyberSecurity Conference in Lincoln for #NatlPrep #BadDayBag

Got invited to speak in Lincoln at the 2016 State of Nebraska Annual Cyber Security Conference. Great to have so many sponsors promoting CyberSecurity

Incidentally, next month, October is National Cybersecurity Month.

Following the FBI is always a hard act to follow. Additionally, I was the after lunch speaker. Gish.

Don’t worry, I’ll try to be serious. And yes, I’m wearing a tie.

I’ll even play a few fun videos too.

And they said try not to stand on any tables and chairs during class. CHALLENGE ACCEPTED~!

On this #AlohaFriday – I report to the OEMA mother ship!

I had to take care of some TPSReports for ICS classes. Talked about upcoming October/November schedules with both SAAs on a few ICS-300 and ICS-400 about registration issues as well as my packed IMT class for FEMA’s USAR Ohio Task Force-1 (OH-TF-1).

I was fortunate to visit with good friends Jerry and Sima. Hilarious!

Lots of discussion on the RNC as well as National Preparedness Month.

And yes, all done with the Aloha Shirt on.

2016 National Preparedness Month at HQ in Washington DC

Can’t imagine a better place to be for 2016 National Preparedness Month…than in Washington DC!!!!!

Yep, spending time at HQ shoring a few things up with External Affairs.

Don’t worry, I wore a suit.

My afternoon was spent at the Pentagon.

Great to see old friends there.

Also proud to see Ready.Gov and FEMA External Affairs touting preparedness to peeps who work IN the Pentagon too.

Final day of training at DCHSEMA #NatlPrep

Second and last day of our training at DC’s Homeland Security Emergency Management Agency.

Again, glad to have so many partners in public safety participating esp from the intelligence community.

Also excited to finally make it to NOAA/NWS Headquarters! Special thanks to my old friend and PIO extraordinaire Cindy.

Every single Emergency Management class is all about building relationships. No matter NIMS/ICS, EOC, Hazardous Weather, Intelligence, or Social Media – build your network of trusted partners in public safety.

Hamilton County All-Hazards NIMS ICS-300 class during #NatlPrep Month!

Part of being prepared is taking classes with your local public safety professionals.

Today, Hamilton County EMA partnered with Ohio Emergency Management Agency to bring ICS-300: Intermediate ICS for Expanding Incidents. 3-day intensive course to talk about the basics of ICS and NIMS and how it applies to all public safety and everyone during an incident/event.

If I counted correctly, we have almost all ESFs represented today! #awesome

Training is key as we continue to push preparedness efforts throughout the county and state. Learning about capabilities is key in any disaster response.
