Half way through the first week of 2014 National Preparedness Month!

“Be Disaster Aware, Take Action to Prepare”

Lots to do…just be prepared!

This week’s theme is consistent with FEMA’s National Preparedness Campaign: Reconnect with Family After a Disaster.

#3: Have extra cables w/ multi-option external power supply for charging your cell phone. #NatlPrep #Prepared2014

Because we use/push more information and data, our power consumption has skyrocketed. I find that having extra cables in various lengths will make life easier when charging your phone. Keeping your family informed before/during/after a disaster is so important – so keep your mobile devices charged!

Additionally, my extra battery pack has gets used almost daily. Busy lifestyles call for travel or remote working options so choose one that has a USB connection(s) so you can charge your various mobile devices.

Because you never want to be *that guy* or *that girl* who hides in the corner next to a smelly garbage can to use the lonely random plug because of this…

This week’s theme is consistent with FEMA’s National Preparedness Campaign: Reconnect with Family After a Disaster.

#2: Have at least two (2) ways to communicate with your family before & during & after an emergency. Cell phone, text msg, Tweets, Email, Post, Pin, Snaps…use it all!

This is NOT a good evacuation plan.

Plan for routes that will be clogged with traffic.

Have your Family Communications Plan ready for everyone in your immediate family.

And don’t forget to hydrate.

2. Have a plan and several routes planned out on how to get there during heavy traffic.

Whether on a holiday (Columbus Day) or Federal mandatory furlough, today is a great day to make and update/check your Emergency Supply Kit.

What to include? What to keep? What to have?

Some items you want to include in your kit are:

Bottled water for you for 3 days.
Food for you for 3 days.
Two working flashlights.
A battery-powered AM/FM/NOAA Weather radio.
Toilet paper.
A whistle to notify/warn others.
First Aid Kit.
Duct tape.
Extra cell phone charger.

And I’d bet you have most of these items around your house ready to go.

So gather your things and get ready…because I guarantee you these few things will help you during the next a disaster or emergency.

Thats Hot – National Fire Prevention Week #FPWeek #FirePrevention

It is National Fire Prevention Week (October 6-12, 2013).

To help you remember, feel free to include the picture below to push your messages of fire safety and fire prevention.

No one likes a disaster – Heh heh (I do enjoy when celebrities help push national initiatives).

4 easy steps to guide the general public this week:

1. Learn more about the smoke detectors, specifically the differences between ionization and photoelectric (from @OhioFire @OhioFireAcademy).

2. Make a family plan and upon evacuation, have a central meeting place to account for all family members.

3. Build an emergency kit that will help everyone during a disaster or emergency.

4. Interact and get involved within your community and push safety efforts with all public safety professionals.
