The Hatch Act, a federal law passed in 1939, limits certain political activities of federal employees, as well as some state, D.C., and local government employees who work in connection with federally funded programs. The law’s purposes are to ensure that federal programs are administered in a nonpartisan fashion, to protect federal employees from political coercion in the workplace, and to ensure that federal employees are advanced based on merit and not based on political affiliation. Closing PIO & Social Media Session at the 63rd Annual Wayne County Fire School
Presenting today at the 63rd Annual Wayne County Fire School (Ohio).

And yes, I get to crack the awesome social media jokes on THE Ohio State University campus.

Lots of Firefighters and Paramedics from all over.

Many familiar faces in the audience too!

Event organizers estimate over 100 attendees with numerous vendors on site including Metro LifeFlight, Cleveland Clinic, and MedFlight of Ohio. Helicopters!

Me? I’m just glad to participate.

Yep, that’s a suit.
Also, kudos to a fellow Firefighter WHFD FF Gary Klaus who was named this year’s Fire School Honorary Dean.

Intro music (GNR’s Paradise City) playing for the afternoon session. #excited.
PIO and Social Media skillz in 3…2…1…
#AlohaFriday for paperwork and meetings at OhioEMA
On this #AlohaFriday – I report to the OEMA mother ship!

I had to take care of some TPSReports for ICS classes. Talked about upcoming October/November schedules with both SAAs on a few ICS-300 and ICS-400 about registration issues as well as my packed IMT class for FEMA’s USAR Ohio Task Force-1 (OH-TF-1).
I was fortunate to visit with good friends Jerry and Sima. Hilarious!
Lots of discussion on the RNC as well as National Preparedness Month.
And yes, all done with the Aloha Shirt on.
Popped in to Sharonville Fire
Great to pop in to see the pros at Sharonville Fire (Ohio).

Also oogling their new ladder truck too (Old midship mount tower ladder to new rear mount stick). They even went with a black stick. So chic!

As usual, they left me and went running out to save someone’s life. #awesome
Excited for their upcoming crisis communications class in December.
2016 National Preparedness Month at HQ in Washington DC
Can’t imagine a better place to be for 2016 National Preparedness Month…than in Washington DC!!!!!

Yep, spending time at HQ shoring a few things up with External Affairs.
Don’t worry, I wore a suit.
My afternoon was spent at the Pentagon.

Great to see old friends there.
Also proud to see Ready.Gov and FEMA External Affairs touting preparedness to peeps who work IN the Pentagon too.

I am fortunate to spend time here with people who are passionate about preparedness.

Final day of training at DCHSEMA #NatlPrep
Second and last day of our training at DC’s Homeland Security Emergency Management Agency.

Again, glad to have so many partners in public safety participating esp from the intelligence community.

Also excited to finally make it to NOAA/NWS Headquarters! Special thanks to my old friend and PIO extraordinaire Cindy.

Every single Emergency Management class is all about building relationships. No matter NIMS/ICS, EOC, Hazardous Weather, Intelligence, or Social Media – build your network of trusted partners in public safety.
Super glad to see so much participation during September: National Preparedness Month aka my favorite month! #NatlPrep
Training at DCHSEMA #NatlPrep
Busy Monday morning instructing at the District of Columbia Homeland Security and Emergency Management.
I’m just glad to see so many partners in public safety participating.

Trust me, I’m glad to be instructing in the Emergency Operations Center too.

So many resources here like a busy 9-1-1 call center, Watch Desk, 3-1-1 call center, and Fusion Center.

Training and education will help everyone work cohesively together in an emarrrrrrrrrrrrrgency.
Happy #TalkLikeAPirateDay too.
My Sunday views #NatlPrep
Slightly different Sunday view for me.

Great discussion with USSS today.
Great to see many local, state, and Federal partner agencies involved in safety/security for everyone in September – National Preparedness Month.
As you know, preparedness is everyone’s responsibility.
Busy weekend here in DC #NatlPrep
It’s going to be a busy weekend here.

Glad to spend part of National Preparedness Month in DC.
Suited up and heading to meetings!
