Welcome to the first day of NIMS ICS Incident Management Team Incident Commander course!
Got a quick welcome from Ohio EMA Training & Exercise David Nunley.
Lots to discuss including responsibilities, leadership, and of course paperwork (ICS forms).
Great first day with participants from Ohio, New Mexico, Oregon, and Georgia with tons to digest in all the slides.

Spent part of my day at Twinsburg Fire (Summit County, OH).
Great to see Fire Chief Tim Morgan. Fun fact, I first met him when he was a new red helmet. We talked a bit about regionalization as well as building partnerships through our IMTs (Incident Management Teams).
But the fun began when I got a chance to chat with Assistant Fire Chief Steve Bosso about PIO stuff.
And of course other stuff too.

Trust me, its great to have such an outspoken advocate for safety at Twinsburg and Summit County.
Be safe peeps – always lean on your trusted fellow peeps before the big one hits.
Long work day but now for some Public Information Officer (PIO) stuff.
Today’s hot topic: ongoing media relation, reporter problems, how to say no, replies that are short and blunt, and the proverbial discussion of “how can we get everyone to play nice in the sandbox!”

Day-5: Final day of the DHS/FEMA Ohio EMA All-Hazards Incident Management Team Logistics Section Chief course.
Again, special thanks to FEMA USAR Ohio Task Force-1 for hosting this week.
Solid morning as we talked about how the LSC frequently meets with the PSC well before much of the action happens.
In fact, it is likely that the LSC is at least 5 steps ahead of the OSC – to plan to supply and equip our tactical operations with the stuff they need.
Ohio EMA LSC Phil Johnson brief the class on how county agencies interact with our activated State EOC focusing in on resource ordering and task assignments.
Like good Logistics Section Chiefs, we debated the merits of pre-staging resources before they are needed for faster deployments and anticipating needs (leaning in).
Lots of discussion on EMAC and the success that the State of Ohio had with 2016 events including the 2016 Republican National Convention which was classified as a NSSE.
We discussed demobilization plans as well as factors that could contribute to delayed demob. As always, we emphasize on the safe return of all crews from disaster deployment.
At the end of the day, we were able to tour the DHS/FEMA USAR OH-TF-1 facility.
Amazing stuff!
Logistics plays a HUGE part of daily operations as they have thousands and thousands of pieces of deployable items needed for disaster operations.
So as you can see, LSCs have an insurmountable task of keeping order during non-disaster times.
For those in the military and are truly Logistics pees, I believe this is an amazing piece of equipment.
If you are a pro, and like to sling load your stuff, you should consider getting a few.

Outstanding start to a week long All-Hazards Incident Management Team (IMT) Logistics Section Chif (LSC) Course.
Great week to be teaching in Dayton, Ohio – the home of FEMA USAR Ohio Task Force-1 (OH-TF-01).
We have outstanding participants from across the country including Ohio, Tennessee, New York, US Marshall’s Office, US Coast Guard, US Food & Drug Administration, and Ohio National Guard.
Region-5 and Region-2 and Region-4 in the hizzouse!!!!
Great engagement from numerous partners in public safety.
Day-1 done. Looking forward to a great week of Logistics with everyone.
On this #AlohaFriday – I report to the OEMA mother ship!
I had to take care of some TPSReports for ICS classes. Talked about upcoming October/November schedules with both SAAs on a few ICS-300 and ICS-400 about registration issues as well as my packed IMT class for FEMA’s USAR Ohio Task Force-1 (OH-TF-1).
I was fortunate to visit with good friends Jerry and Sima. Hilarious!
Lots of discussion on the RNC as well as National Preparedness Month.
And yes, all done with the Aloha Shirt on.
Yesterday, I supported Cleveland Police on the #PrideInTheCLE #ClevelandPride event in Public Square.
Much different from the Republican National Convention.
Lots of families out and about (and enjoying) the new cool fountain in downtown Cleveland.
Everyone was having a great time.
Lots of speculation and talk about public safety not being around to support the LGBT community – all totally false. Public Safety will be there to support any community.
Trust me, lots of public safety was on hand to support our entire community.

..even the Cleveland Police bike patrol was out supporting the day’s events.
Lots of areas to cover.
Partnerships with the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department and Cleveland Police Department are key in providing safety for everyone who attended the event.
It was a relatively hot day so I am glad that many of the participants dressed appropriately for the event.
Some not so much.
Fun entertainment and friendly people staying cool out in Public Square.
While waiting around, we had some time for a quick PIO selfie…
Also had time for a few interviews with local media.
Also happy to run into a long time good friend Mark Zinni who is the anchor for the Channel 3 Eyewitness News in Hartford, Connecticut. Great to see him again.

While out there, we even made a few new peeps into Junior Police Officers.

We were fortunate enough to do a few live interviews on Periscope from Public Square.
We highlighted the event and gave a status report of the operations using Periscope.

Got a chance to spend a few with the Blue Angels.
And yes, Fat Albert was there.
As you may already know, the Blue Angels are my favorite performance team.
The do a great job in highlighting and promoting other team members like all the ground support staff and technicians.

Note: Absent in the class seven aircraft lineup is Blue Angel #6 (opposing solo) – RIP Capt Kuss.
They had some issues with the afterburners in #7 so they were doing some extra testing on the ramp. Check out the video:
