Few things to review:
1. Good reminder to check your “Maximum height is ****” plate on your rig.
2. Law enforcement officials should really know the area, including height clearances.
3. Even if Police are leading you out, Fire/EMS should always be aware of your surroundings.
4. Social media is fast and information pertaining to your ongoing situations will always be faster than a PIO.
5. I can already see it now: “Dear Chief, I don’t know what happened…”
6. Crews should have their seatbelts on at all times while the vehicle is moving.

That’s right, she got caught because of her Facebook post. 
Colleen Cudney was convicted for DUI in 2012. One condition – she is to submit to random breathalyzer tests.
Fast forward to St Patrick’s Day 2014 (March 17th, 2014). Colleen was out carousing and drinking. On Tuesday March 18th, 2014, Colleen gets called in for a random breathalyzer test.
Colleen passes. She’s so amazed, that she takes to Facebook and posts about it: “Buzz killer for me, I had to breatalyze (sic) this morning and I drank yesterday but I passed thank god lol my dumbass.”
Well, well, well…..Local law enforcement called Colleen back again for an additional urine test. Colleen had indeed failed the more precise urine test. 
At this time, Colleen is looking at an additional 93 days in jail from the 18th District Court in Michigan for violating her parole. Nice work Colleen.
Shockingly, Colleen has since deleted her Facebook post and her Facebook account. Hmmmmm.
Morale of the story: Know the power of social media because what you post, isn’t really private.

This week is National Flood Safety Awareness Week (March 16 – 22, 2014).
To help clarify some misconceptions about water and flooding, let me make it very clear – NEVER drive through flooded roads. Here’s a great example. We were dispatched after a few reported calls of a flooded roadway. Looks innocent enough right?
Just because it’s downhill does NOT mean it is any safer…in fact, it is more dangerous.
So how can you share this safety message with others?

Why should you have a working smoke detector?
A properly installed and maintained smoke alarm is the only thing in your home that can alert you and your family to a fire 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Whether you’re awake or asleep, a working smoke alarm is constantly on alert, scanning the air for fire and smoke.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, almost two-thirds of home fire deaths resulted from fires in properties without working smoke alarms. A working smoke alarm significantly increases your chances of surviving a deadly home fire.

Spending a bunch of time in NW Ohio with several emergency services agencies focused in on Water/Ice Rescue.
Did some GPS coordinate work, observation and recon work, and of course some grid search pattern work.
A few of my peeps testing their newly acquired National Incident Management System (NIMS) Incident Command System (ICS) concepts.
Had a chance to interact with a few of the NW Ohio water rescue resources as well as a few aeromedical agencies too.
I’m glad to see so many willing all-hazards participants involved in this exercise.
Also glad to see local and regional law enforcement participation in the day’s events too.
Despite relatively colder temps, all crews managed to say jovial and warm.
Thanks again to my cadre of ICS Subject Matter Experts in Operations, Logistics, Public Information, Communications, and Air Operations who assisted today with evaluation.

Viewing and funeral information for slain Cleveland Fire Lieutenant William Walker
The viewings will be on Saturday, November 9th “B” from 1-5pm and Sunday, November 10th “C” from 10am-5pm at the EF Boyd and Son Funeral Home, 15357 Euclid Ave., East Cleveland 44112.
There will be a service on Monday, November 11th “A” at 2pm at the Cleveland Public Auditorium, 500 Lakeside Ave., Cleveland 44114. There will be a family hour starting at 1pm at the Public Auditorium.
MEMBERS WISHING TO PARTICIPATE IN THE FINAL SALUTE SHOULD BE IN FULL CLASS “A” (including caps) AND REPORT TO THE PUBLIC AUDITORIUM AT NOON ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 11TH.
Reminder: The Association of Cleveland Fire Fighters has established the William Walker Family Assistance Fund to provide financial assistance to the surviving spouse and dependent children of the late William Walker.
