Glad to see so many partners in public safety attending today’s class.

Facebook +Shaka + rusnivek + VR = ?

Sometimes I get to do some cool things.

My friends at Facebook wanted to showcase their virtual reality (VR) stuff with me.

Shaka + LIKE + @rusnivek

Virtual reality goggles? Yep. The possibilities on Facebook Messenger/chat/meetings are endless.

Software has some inherent challenges esp with the shortfall of hardware proliferation and consistency. Bandwidth issues and requirements are tough enough to manage for reasonable VR interaction and usage.

But overall, some neeto VR stuff.

See, I told you VR is closer than you think.

Without STUFF, Operations can’t do STUFF #Logistics

Thinking about who will be attending my Incident Management Team (IMT) Logistics Section Chief (LSC) Course in February. And as usual, lots of my Emergency Response peeps ask about why do I even care about Logistics esp when most of the work is done by Operations.

Let me break this down for you: Without STUFF, Operations can’t do STUFF. Logistics are the ones to get you STUFF.

Look, I know you need stuff to do stuff. We all do. But the people in Logistics really make magic happen.

That’s why the FEMA EMI IMT LSC course is so important to the success of any planned event, disaster, or emergency.

Logistics really do make the world go round.

Was SnapChat eyeing out Eyebobs’ logo? I smell lawsuit! #SMEM #SnapChat

Sounds like SnapChat is getting sued by Eye Bobs.

I guess I can kinda see it, but they are in a total different business right?

Well, kinda. Hardware is sorta the same.

TMZ was the first one to post the story. Direct link to their story here.

BTW-if you see the Spectacles machine, LMK. I want one.

Children’s book on Hurricane Watch

Since it’s quiet in the office today, I’ve been assessing a few new kid preparedness and teaching tools.

Do you think Melissa has one on “Hurricane Warning” too?

Teach your kids about being safe and heeding all warnings from your local National Weather Service (NWS) office, Emergency Management officials, and public safety professionals.

Hello to January 2017!

December was relatively busy but say hello to January 2017!

In the first week, its paperwork mania! As usual, we have yearly update classes that needs to be completed and mandatory inservice training.

Second week, I’ll be headed to the State of New Mexico’s Department of Heath to teach Social media. For my friends in Region-6, I also need to figure out if I’m a green or red. Hmmm.

Third week, I’ll be presenting at the huge PIO Conference in Franklin County (Columbus), Ohio. Working the PIO magic with Jennifer Ciaccia and Erica Creech. It’s a huge conference with tons of participants. Do you want to attend? Just email Xenia (xeniapalus@franklincountyohio.gov ) for more deets.

Fourth week, I head back to St. Clair County Michigan to teach social media. If you remember, these are my peeps who participated in the big Cause IV experiment with the Department of Homeland Security Federal Emergency Management Agency, and Canada’s Public Safety on a cross-border full scale exercise in 2016. Excited to see my peeps again!
