Debris management isn’t easy! #Hurricane #Irma

Aside from all the response stuff that goes on in the disaster, I think the mainstream public doesn’t understand debris management. In fact, I would go so far as to say that many communities across the US don’t have a debris management plan.

Here’s the current situation here in Monroe County, FL (aka Florida Keys).

This is one of several locations for debris.

What makes this so complex is that because of the smaller geographic location of the islands, it is hard to manage space too.

Emergency Managers should also think about transportation of debris. I’ve had to already roll out my evasive driving maneuvers. Not good.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Response is easy. But true Emergency Managers know that Recovery is the hardest phase in a disaster.

A great additional flashlight for disasters #NatlPrep #PlanAhead

Flashlights (not just flashlight) are key components of your preparedness kit. But there are soooooo many kinds of flashlights to choose from. Keep in mind that handheld ones are important, but headlamps are AWESOME!

Headlamps are GREAT flashlights too bec they allow hands-free operation when gathering things to safely evacuate #NatlPrep

Planning with items like this is a great way to bring light to a dark situation. Yes, pun intended. Hands free makes life easier…esp in a disaster.

When writing up your families’ preparedness plan, don’t forget to include flashlights and a rugged headlamp!

I got a headache!!! In your preparedness kit, I need your… #NatlPrep

Before you hear “I got a headache!!!!!” – everyone should have planned to keep extra medications in their emergency preparedness kit. And I know, you got the case of the MUNDAYS – so for sure we might have a few headaches. So make sure your planning includes extra medications for everyone in your family.

Make a medications list and plan to maintain an extra 3-5 days of your meds in your emergency preparedness kit. #NatlPrep

Never know when you might have to use some meds.

Cleveland Police FacebookLive for NICE – confiscated rifle with drum

Got to work with Cleveland Police today on an ongoing campaign for safety within the community.

But it was such a nice day today that we decided to roll it out in front of Cleveland Police HQ. FYI-a downtown public open plaza makes it a bit more challenging to do live social media feeds.

No time for funny business because FacebookLive is…well LIVE! So no second takes, redo, or screwing around!

OK, a little screwing around.

Yes, sharing the message on FacebookLive does aggregate the video higher on Facebook users’ feed and notifications – however, the content needs to be engaging. Also, needs a teaser, and lead in, and most importantly, a hook!

The story of the arrest flowed easily and the officers were able to recount the events. Like countless police officers across this country, all are proud of the work they do within every community and continue to provide tireless service to their constituents.

Did you see Cleveland Police talking about N.I.C.E. and their apprehension?

I’ll give you a hint, it had to deal with taking guns off the street…also our hook.

I: Impact

C: Community

E: Engagement

Well, if you missed it, you can watch the full FacebookLive video here:

I hope you enjoyed a little behind the scenes PIO views.

I’m glad to be working with a great organization to bring more safety to all residents in the community.

5 easy tips for a safe 2016 Halloween night #TrickOrTreat #boo

Happy Halloween everyone!!!!

Here are a few tips to make sure your little trick-or-treaters are out safe:

1. Make sure everyone can easily see out of their costumes.

Costume safety!

Cuts and bruises are quick ways to ruin a fun Halloween night.

2. Consult your local jurisdictions (AHJ) on approved times for trick-or-treating.

Trick-or-Treat!

Never want to show up at someone’s house unexpectedly.

3. Make sure everyone has a flashlight or glow sticks.

giphy-11

See and be seen

While driving, it’s hard to see people at night so the more visible you can make everyone, the better.

4. There are chemicals inside those glow sticks – DO NOT let the kiddos chew on them.

Pop – ewwwwwww!

Whoa.

5. Most of all, have fun!
