Doctoring images to incite fear = not cool #SMEM #PIO #RNCINFO #Safety-SM-16-004

Lots of BSery going on.

@TKDMike pushed this image out on 07-16-16 at 1902 EST trying to portray that Cleveland is burning dumpsters tonight for the 2016 Republican National Convention.

Orig tweet w/ image found here

That image looked weird to me.

So let’s look a little closer shall we?

A simple online search found this exact image used multiple times.

Once as a meme for protesters in the UK

zX_0CjO37DFTB_Y4tu9IRqWkGMSqCDOCBbD4aWHhobo

Made into a UK Meme

Yep. That’s weird.

Then the same image, slightly better quality found on imgur from 10 months ago.

jeNxFNG

From imgur

Again, double weird.

Then I found the original.

Game-7 from the Stanley Cup in 2011. Appropriate photo credit to Brian Neumann.

In the initial @tkdmike post from 07-16-16, he has embellished the image and added the Quicken Loans Arena logo and an RNC2016 logo to the dumpster. Additionally, behind the gal on the right is also a photoshopped sign for Trump2016. **Clearly against the orig photo by Brian CA Neumann on 06-16-2011 on Flickr. The sign should not read “Trump 2016”, it should read “Sunrise Kitchens” – also note the hockey jersey.

Doctoring images to push political agenda or incite fear = not cool.

Canada image from 2011 –> fake it to be a Cleveland image in 2016 = not cool.

It’s going to be a long NSSE.

Reporting live from the JIC…..

@rusnivek

92 years ago, Cleveland hosted…

Sharing a little history I learned this morning.

In 1924, the Republicans nominated then President Calvin Coolidge.

Then in 1936, the Republicans nominated Alf Landon to run against Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

So third time RNC should be a breeze in hosting a large event like this one right?

RNC in t-minus five days…

State of Ohio EMA new Joint Information Center class in #SummitCounty #JIC #JIS #PIO #ESF15

Rolling out the State of Ohio Emergency Management Agency‘s new G0291: Joint Information Centers (JIC) / Joint Information System (JIS) Planning for Tribal, state, and Local PIOs. Luckily, we were in the Command and Control room at the Summit County Health Department.

As always, its great teaching with Sister Michael Marie. Outstanding experiences and great stories from her international work in challenging areas of the world.

IMG_1681

Even OEMA was checking in on our progress!

IMG_1688

#truelove for us Emergency Management Instructors.

Sister Michael showcased the importance of all-hazard PIO involvement in emergency response to a natural hazard.

IMG_1690

Everyone was able to share experiences and help each other improve – esp thinking outside the box on various scenarios.

IMG_1692

By the end of this in-class activity, our participants realized that there are so many parts to a “simple disaster” that it pays to build partnerships early.

IMG_1696

It’s all hands working in an emergency – so build your relationships early before a disaster.

Remember: At 0300, you ugly, you smell, you stink – and clearly that’s not the best time to meet new people and to function in an emergency at 110%.

IMG_1714

“As Emergency Management, we must continue to nurture solid working relationships and common response/recovery objectives with our all-hazards partners in public safety.” – @rusnivek

Best part? At the end of the class, they all applauded.

slow-clap

Awwww yeah!

ysss

When was the last time a class applauded your Emergency Management NIMS ICS compliant class?

Heh.

As always, it’s great to teach with OEMA Instructor and consummate professional Sister Michael Marie.

There is so much going on in this picture. I can’t even.

I’m just glad to be a part of something big.

Along with the correct frequency, don’t forget to program the exact SAME code so that you can get county specific information

If you live in NE Ohio, you can find your frequency and SAME code here.

Thanks to all of our active partners in public safety. From the Locals to State to Federal partners who have made this month so successful – thank you!

Thank you to my agencies who have allowed me to share my preparedness tips with you.

I only wonder what will 2016 preparedness bring? Hmmm. Here’s a hint…

Whew-I am so glad that many of you have decided to participate in this month’s activities. Keep in mind that you have 11 more months to address your public in finding ways to be better prepared in a disaster. Planning for the 2016 National Preparedness Month will begin shortly.

As always, start your peeps off right by sending them here.

Packed September for 3 different regions with #NatlPrep

August was quite the month of new stuff, and in true form, September will be just as exciting.

I am sure know that September is my most favorite month right? September is National Preparedness month where I’ll be featuring a whole bunch of different preparedness plans and you can participate and better prepare you and your family for disasters or emergencies. All of it…totally free!

But for the rest of the month, here’s the plan:

First week: I’ll be presenting at the Nebraska Infrastructure Protection Conference on Social Media intelligence and disasters. On day-2 of the conference, I’ll be giving the my national keynote presentation: Task Force Deployment to St. Bernard Parish Louisiana – Lower 9th Ward. Region-7 boom!

Second week: I’ll be presenting at the State of Kentucky Governor’s Emergency Management Workshop rolling out the brand new G-270.4 Recovery from Disaster course. Two days of critical recovery classes in Region-4…with me!

Third week: I’ll be in Columbus doing some Mass Fatality TtT classes with Ohio EMA and then delivering another Social Media course to Franklin County EMA. Back in Region-5.

Fourth week: We have the Ohio Department of Public Safety’s PIO Symposium (Friday September 25th, 2015) in Columbus.

And the Fifth week: I just might have some time to do some paperwork. Sigh.

IMG_1909

This will be a tough first few weeks, but looking forward to the various regions.

And remember: Make your emergency plan today.

Great weekend ICS class!

IMG_2692

Good mix of participants from Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Alabama (serving FEMA Region-5, Region-3, and Region-4).

IMG_2639

Building all-hazards partnerships early and planning together is a defining factor for success…esp in HAZMAT emergencies.

IMG_2644

Special thanks to Antero and Belmont County Emergency Management Agency for the hospitality.

IMG_2715

Glad to be a small part in facilitating the new partnerships.
