This busy 5-7-8-6-5 December will close out 2016

Slight delayed as I was OCONUS – but December is here! December is here!

First week, I’ll be presenting at the 2016 County Engineers Association of Ohio’s Annual Winter Conference. I’ll then be on a special detail to the Blue Springs Police Department (Missouri). And then teaching some social media in Topeka for the State of Kansas Emergency Management. Region-7 baby!

Second week, I’ll be back at the State of Colorado’s Emergency Operations Center to teach the new FEMA/NDPTC social media tools and techniques course. Region-8 is great!

Third week, I’ll head down to Region-6 to Baton Rouge to teach another FEMA/NDPTC social media tools and techniques course.

And then the fourth week, I’ll be in southern Ohio teaching a detailed public information course and crisis communications workshop. Back in Region-5!

As usual, they left me and went running out to save someone’s life. #awesome

Excited for their upcoming crisis communications class in December.

Save your #Family #Emergency #Communications #Plan on multiple devices #NatlPrep #PrepareAthon

Here’s an easy Saturday plan – take a few moments to have your Family Emergency Communications Plan in hard copy, saved on laptop/tablet, and of course on your smart phone enabled device.

By having multiple backup copies of your Family Emergency Communications Plan, you can be assured that during an evacuation, you’ll have instant access to it for use by any member of your family.

Nice work! Now, it’s Saturday! Get out there and have some fun!

But do it safely and responsibly.

Help your Grandparents out by doing this with them #NatlPrep #PrepareAthon

Still the second week of 2016 National Preparedness Month and hey you – I see you!

This week, we are focusing on helping family complete their family emergency communications plan. That’s right – go and help your Grandfather and/or Grandmother out!

Helping everyone in your family can better prepare them for a disaster or emergency.

Sharing your #Family #Emergency #Communications #Plan with First Responders #NatlPrep #PrepareAthon

Happy National Preparedness month! The focus during this second week is on preparing friends and family for different emergencies.

IMG_3986

Showcasing the skills of local first responders are incredibly important to adults AND kids. And sharing important information (like a Family Emergency Communications Plan) with first responders is critical.

Often times, we overlook explaining what actually happens during an emergency.

IMG_3987

So take the time to explain to your kids that during an emergency, ALL first responders are there to help. And of course, don’t forget to teach your children to dial 9-1-1.

IMG_3979

Reminder: When teaching children to call 9-1-1, do not verbally say “Nine-Eleven” as there is not an eleven button on the phone.

Do it today!

Memorize ALL your phone numbers? If not, here’s a free solution #NatlPrep #PrepareAthon

Seriously, do you memorize all your phone numbers? Chances are, you don’t.

So stop goofing around on this holiday and create your family emergency communications plan here.

For those who have heard me talk about my own plan, I use ubiquitous NIMS ICS-205 form. #NIMS #ICS #FTW

Who’s embracing ICS now?

But seriously, take a few moments to plan for the safety of your family with your Family Emergency Communications Plan.

Reporting live from LEX18…

I am definitely using a few examples to help break the ice.

Talofa from TALA FOU News!

But don’t worry, I have a whole library of examples to share – basically, what I’ve learned through experience.

One of the basic tips I talk about is RBF.

Posture is important especially since I look super small behind a podium.

First week, I will be instructing FEMA’s National Emergency Management Executive Academy Program at EMI specifically on Crisis Communications, Public Information Officer, and Social Media. Then heading back to Ohio to teach a basic Public Information Officer’s Course and Joint Information Center/System course (G-290/291) in Summit County. R3 and R5 = Twofer in just the first week!

Second week, I will head back north to Michigan to teach social media at Michigan State University. Then the last half of the week spent in Chicago for meetings with various public safety officials including Chicago Fire.

Third week, we have a State of Ohio Emergency Management Instructors’ Workshop at Ohio EMA in Columbus. Good chance to chat and share successes with our staff – who are all good stewards of Emergency Management. Cbus baby!

Fourth week, I will be instructing in the big DHS/FEMA 2016 National Training and Exercise Symposium at EMI. Whohoo!!! Hoping to catch up to Brian Kamoie and Doc Lumpkins again. Then jetting off to Nebraska to teach Social Media and Crisis Communications in the statewide CPESymposia. R3 and R7 in the hizzouse!
