2018 Second Quarter #PIO Training at WOIO Channel 19 news #PresidentsDay

Leading off our 2018 2nd quarter Public Information Officer (PIO) Training at WOIO Channel 19/43 (CBS Affiliate).

I’m proud to have so many PIOs from across the State of Ohio and West Virginia discussing current issues and breaking news.

Collaboration and coordination were consistent themes we revisit all the time including Joint Information Center and Joint Information Systems (JIC/JIS). Current news stories like the FL shooting were hot button topics but we also discussed the Boston Bombing, FacebookLive killer, 2016 Republican National Convention, Chardon Shooting, Burke Lakefront plane crash, 3 girls missing for 10+ years, Imperial Ave murders, World Series, and NBA Championships.

But knowing that other PIOs are going through the same issues, we can commiserate and work toward a solution. Yes, of course we did the behind the scenes tours of the studio, desk assignment/reporter bullpen….

…anchor desks, and even popped into a planning meetings for the evening broadcast.

We had so many various disciplines represented.

Special thanks to Anchor Chris Tanaka, Acting News Director Brian Sinclair, Mel Watson, Assignment Editor Shelly Steinmetz, and Reporter Jennifer Picciano. Trust me – it’s great to have media partners working with the NEOhio PIOs!

Another presser with FL Gov in Key West #PIO Coordination

Started out the morning with a press conference w/ the Governor of Florida again here in Key West. My view from the podium.

Topic today was the Key West economic push “open for business” – glad to see the partnerships of city, county, state, and Federal partnerships making that happen.

PIO pro tip: You’ll want to position your DIV/SUP (FCO Cadre) in the right place. Glad I did.

Money baby….money!

As usual, Gov Scott did some post presser interviews w/ the USAToday, local stations, Orlando etc….And as I said before, we are fortunate to have great working relationships with so many media outlets from Miami…

…and even public radio showed up too!

It’s quite an amazing process to see everyone working together to recover from a major storm here in Florida.

Showcasing some of the specialty teams in play for the upcoming RNC #RNCINFO

Press event yesterday morning to showcase all the equipment and teams that could be utilized and deployed out for next week’s Republican National Convention (RNC) in Cleveland.

Cleveland Police Sgt Jen Ciaccia lead the effort that started at 0600.

After events in Dallas, the bomb robot was of great interest to everyone.

If you take the time to understand the technology, this is an invaluable piece of equipment to any police department.

Some reporters wanted to try to wear the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) suits.

NBC Nightly News Correspondent Jacob Rascon even hoped on the Mounted Unit to see what it was like to ride above the crowds.

Nice guy.

Don’t worry, Cleveland Police’s Mounted Unit doesn’t j-walk…

…like you, they use the cross walk.

Bike patrol officers from across the state including Blue Ash Police and Akron Police were out running training throughout the city.

It’s great to have so many law enforcement agencies working together to ensure safety for all participants.

Additionally, lots of pros working behind the scenes making magic happen.

Proud to have a so many Public Information Officers (PIOs) working together in the Cleveland Joint Information Center (JIC).

Looking forward to more fun tomorrow.

And yes, it’s t-minus 3 days…

No HIPAA violation, but RN fired for posting to Instagram?

Wait a sec…

You can get fired for posting an Instagram picture even without a patient in the picture?

Instagram post (Cort of ABCNews.com)

Apparently Katie Duke (RN) was fired from New York Presbyterian Hospital because of her Instagram post was deemed “insensitive”.

We talk a bunch about this my PIO/Social Media classes right?

Again I ask, can you get fired from your job because of an Instagram post?

Guess so…
