Emergency Services

The August deets in 2 regions

August rushing in so fast that I almost forgot to give my details for the month.

First week, I’ll be teaching a packed ICS-300 class to local public safety professionals, county representatives, state officials, and Department of Defense / US Military assets. All in prep for an upcoming NSSE.

Second week, I will be facilitating the quarterly NorthEast Ohio Public Information Officers (NEO-PIO) Training at WKYC. Latter half of the week, I’ll be testing the Continuity of Operations (COOP) plan at the new Task Force’s Base of Operations (BOO). To paraphrase: COOPing at the BOO.

Third week, I will be attending a class on behalf of the State of Ohio based around Risk Analysis for Fusion Centers.

Fourth week, I will be teaching basic social media in Maryland and Delaware. Also likely to attend a few meetings in Washington DC at FEMA HQ too. Best behavior indeed!

The beginning of the fifth week, I will be working with Cleveland Police as we hit another law enforcement outreach campaign. Latter half of the week, I will be teaching the State of Ohio Emergency Management Agency’s G-290: Basic Public Information Officer course at Medina County EMA.

It’s already a busy 2 region month. Hope to see you out there!

Final day of DHS/FEMA ICS-300!

Final day of ICS-300!

This morning, we will be talking a bit about allocation and resource management.

Despite the disaster or emergency, It is critical that we continue to be fiscally responsible to the communities we serve. Let me dispel the common misnomer – there is no such thing as an unlimited budget for disaster response/recovery. We must utilize our resources accordingly to best maximize our time. Much like everything else in life, all resources and personal must be accounted for and justified.

Shout out to BFD and their hospitality this week as we help our local partners, state agencies, and DoD assets in preparation for their upcoming NSSE.

Thanks BFD!

After three long days in class, it’s great to have so many smiling faces

Smiles and shakas from my ICS-300 class!

I’m just proud to have so much participation and networking in class.

Ribbit.

Day-2 of ICS-300 at BFD!

Another great start to our ICS-300 course. I started our packed class out with Unified Command in the AM…

…followed with lots of discussion on SMART Objectives.

A few more in-class activities on SMART objectives help everyone see goals of disaster activities.

Glad to be working with so many partners in public safety including the Department of Defense various military assets. Special thanks to all the pros at Bloomington Fire for the hospitality.

Final day tomorrow!

1Q 2016 found that most people acquired news from…

Thinking back to the start of 2016, the way people get their info seems to be from various sources.

In this study from 1Q 2016, it appears that TV is the primary source where people get their information.

For 2017, I am willing to bet that as cellular data plans start to grow and more people utilize the “unlimited data plans” – I bet that online radio source local or satellite grows. (Shall I cite in-vehicle WiFi).

I also think that SnapChat will dissolve.

I also still think that Instagram will add more emotions for users to choose from on each Insta post.

Just my two cents…

Aspen-30 we show you

When we talk about good communicators, we talk about how we deliver the message.

So take a moment out of your busy Saturday afternoon to listen to this 5 minute story from this crew of the SR-71 aka Aspen-30.

Listen specifically for pace, intonation, clarity, terminology, fluctuation, audience association, and of course painting the flight picture from multiple location.

Thank you for your service and for the great Saturday story (Retired) Major Brian Shul and (Retired) Maj Walter Watson.

The last domestic United 747 flight is today

The last flight of the domestic United 747s is today – Flight 2704 departing out of Chicago O’Hare (ORD).

United Airlines 747-400. Easily my most favorite inservice commercial aircraft.

The Boeing 747 (aka The Queen of the Skies) is an incredible jumbo jet that starting it’s service in February 1969. That’s right – that’s a 48 year career for this aircraft for commercial air service with various airline carriers.

For me? I have so many great memories in this aircraft.
Last stop for today’s domestic United Flight 2704 is San Francisco (SFO).

For those wondering, there are other international flights for the UAL 747 out of SFO – however, those end on October 28, 2017.

Thanks for the memories 747.
